Arkhill, in the Scottish county of Angus, barely a mile from the village of Eassie, is surrounded by mountainous countryside that does not lend itself to horse racing. However, the Sporting Magazine of 1840 reported a meeting taking place in May 1840, with the principal race on the card the Arkhill Silver Tankard. After a keenly fought race Mr Evans’s Lord Byron got the better of Reform and Namus. It is not surprising that there were no follow-up meetings. |
